Eugene Rousseau (1932 - 2024)
It is with great sadness that we must inform you of the passing of legendary saxophonist Dr. Eugene Rousseau on August 24, 2024. Through our Yamaha Artist Relations team in the U.S., we have sent our most sincere condolences on the passing of Dr. Rousseau to his wife, Norma, and his 2 children, Lisa-Marie and Joe.
Born on August 23, 1932, Dr. Rousseau made a significant contribution to the art of saxophone playing and musical culture, bringing many outstanding artists up not only as performers but also as world-class teachers. His music has touched many people. and his passion will be remembered forever.
The most important aspect of Yamaha's relationship with Dr. Rousseau is the collaboration with him in our saxophone development that began in 1972. The Yamaha Saxophone 62 Series, which has been played by saxophonists around the world, was completed through a series of prototypes and improvements based on Dr. Rousseau's knowledge as a performer and educator, as well as thorough analysis of the instrument. It is no exaggeration to say that without Dr. Rousseau, our Yamaha saxophones would not have been born.
We, at Yamaha owe a great deal of gratitude to Dr. Rousseau and his family. May the music, inspiration, and innovations he leaves behind continue to resonate in our hearts all over the world.
