<Level 1> What is Voice Guide?
When Voice Guide is active, the instrument gives audible information on the current display or operation being executed, allowing those who have visual impairments to enjoy playing and using the instrument. Included among the various convenient features of Voice Guide are the following.

- You can operate the instrument while hearing the information shown in the display.
- You can recognize the display called up, the function being executed, and the parameter value you’ve set.
- You can recognize the preset Voice names, preset Style names and preset Song names.
- You can recognize display messages.
- You can recognize the button names on the control panel.

<NOTE> Announcements will be played only if the corresponding item is supported. For details on displays and functions that have corresponding announcements, refer to the separate file “Voice Guide File List.”

<Level 1> Setting Up
<Level 2> Saving a downloaded Voice Guide (audio) file to a USB Flash Memory
(1) Extract the downloaded Voice Guide file on your PC.
(2) Save the extracted files into the root directory (highest level folder) of the USB flash memory. Make sure that there is a CVP-609 folder (or CVP-605 folder) in the root directory and a Voice Guide folder in the CVP-609 folder (or CVP-605 folder).

<Note> Make sure that the USB flash memory has enough memory (at least 2 GB).

<Level 1> Start Voice Guide
(1) Press the Standby/On switch (to the immediate left of the Volume dial at the left of the control panel) to turn the power on.

(2) Connect the USB flash memory (see above) containing the Voice Guide files to be saved into the instrument’s [USB TO DEVICE] port (at the left of the control panel). If you remove the USB flash memory, the Voice Guide function is inactive.

<NOTE>
-To use Voice Guide, the Voice Guide setting (described later) must be set to “On.” The factory default is “On.” When the setting is “Off,” press and hold down the [DEMO] button for longer than three seconds. 
- When not using Voice Guide even if the USB flash memory containing the Voice Guide files is connected to the instrument, press and hold down the [DEMO] button for longer than three seconds. The instrument announces “Voice Guide Off,” confirming that Voice Guide has been set to off. 
- The [DEMO] button is located at the left of the control panel, to the immediate right of the Volume dial. <END of NOTE>

<Level 1> Getting Started　–Selecting a Voice–
Start using Voice Guide by selecting the Voice “Cocktail Piano.”

(1) Follow instruction steps (1) to (2) in “Turning Voice Guide On/Off” above to turn Voice Guide on.

(2) While holding down the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, touch the screen to find the location of “Main Voice Selection.” (The name is announced.) You can find the desired item or function, without executing it but by simply having it announced. The current Voice name will be also announced following “Main Voice Selection.” When turning the power on, “Concert Grand” is selected (default setting), so “Concert Grand” will be announced.

<NOTE> 
-The ASSIGNABLE [4] button is located at the left of the display. The ASSIGNABLE buttons are lined up two in a row, up or down. The button at the bottom right is ASSIGNABLE [4]. 
- For information on the display layout examples, refer to the separate appendix (English only).

(3) Release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch again “Main Voice Selection” (in step 2 above) to execute the operation. The “Main Voice Selection” display appears. The Main category name is announced, followed by the Sub category name and Voice name. With the default setting, “Piano” is announced, followed by “Grand Piano” and “Concert Grand.”

(4) Change the “Concert Grand” Voice to “Cocktail Piano.” While holding down the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, touch the screen to find the location of “Cocktail Piano.” (The name is announced.) Release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, find “Cocktail Piano” on the display then touch it again. The “Cocktail Piano” Voice will be called up.

(5) Play the keyboard.

<Level 1> Basic Operation
<Level 2> Operation Concept -Finding an item or function (Preview Reading) -
You can find the desired item or function, without executing it but simply having it announced, with the Preview Reading function. To use Preview Reading, simultaneously hold down the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, and touch the screen. To find different items on the screen, simultaneously press and hold down the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, while touching the screen and moving your finger. Repeat this until you find the desired item and hear it announced.

<NOTE>
- The original ASSIGNABLE [4] function is disabled.
- You can use the Left pedal instead of ASSIGNABLE [4] button for Preview Reading. (Refer to “Voice Guide Controller” below.) Throughout this manual, the ASSIGNABLE [4] button is used in the instructions.
- When using the Left pedal for Preview Reading, the original Left pedal function is disabled.

<Level 2> Reading the Control Panel Button Names
While simultaneously holding down the ASSIGNABLE [4] button and pressing the buttons on the control panel, the button names will be announced. During this, other operations are canceled.

<Level 2> Pan Settings for Preview Reading and Announcements
Preview Readings are panned to the center, while operation guidance announcements are panned to the right. 

<Level 2> Operations When Using Voice Guide
When Voice Guide is inactive (set to “Off” or the Voice Guide files are not available), touching anywhere on the display outside the border of a pop-up window closes the window. When Voice Guide is active, the pop-up window stays open unless you touch the upper right corner of the display. 

<NOTE> 
- If you cannot find the Close button on the display and return to the previous display, use the HOME button. The [HOME] button is located at the lower right of the display, beneath the [DATA] dial.
- Depending on the pop-up window, touch the button near the center of the display to select or execute the desired action and exit the pop-up window.  
- Operations may differ depending on the particular popup window or display.

<Level 1> Advanced Operations –Adjusting the metronome volume–
Here, we’ll try a more advanced operation by adjusting the metronome volume.

(1) Press the [HOME] button to call up the Home display. “HOME” is announced, and the Home display appears. If the Home display is already called up, nothing is announced.

(2) Find “Menu” by using Preview Reading. After recognizing the location, release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch “Menu” again to open the “Menu” display. The “Menu” button is located at the bottom right in the display.

(3) Find “Metronome” by using Preview Reading. There are two menu displays. The button for “Menu” page 2 selection is located at the center of the right end, and the button for “Menu” page 1 selection is located at the center of the left end. The “Metronome” icon is located around the center of Menu page 2. After “Metronome” is announced and you’ve recognized the location, release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch “Metronome” again to open the “Metronome” display. The tab selected previously will be announced. The “Metronome” and “Tap Tempo” tabs are located on the left of the display. If “Metronome” is announced, go on to step 5.

(4) (When “Tap Tempo” is announced)
Find the “Metronome” tab by using Preview Reading. After recognizing the location, release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch “Metronome” again.
 
(5) Find Volume by using Preview Reading. After recognizing the location, release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch “Volume” again. This lets you adjust the volume.

(6) Use the DATA DIAL to set the value. The value you set is announced. Press the [METRONOME] button to start the metronome, if you want to set the value while playing back the metronome. The [METRONOME] button is located just to the right of the [DEMO] button.

(7) After setting, press the [HOME] button to call up the Home display. To return to the “Menu” display, touch the upper right corner on the display.

The metronome volume has been set.

<Level 1> Detailed Settings for Voice Guide
Global settings for Voice Guide can be set in the Utility display. Here you can Enable/Disable Voice Guide, select the desired Controller for Preview Reading (ASSIGNABLE [4] button or Left pedal) and set the Voice Guide volume.

<Level 2> How to Enter Detailed Settings
(1) Press the [HOME] button to call up the Home display. “HOME” is announced, and the Home display appears. If the Home display is already called up, nothing is announced. 

(2) Find “Menu” by using Preview Reading. After recognizing the location, release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch “Menu” again to open the “Menu” display. The “Menu” button is located at the bottom right in the display.

(3) Find Utility by using Preview Reading. There are two menu displays. The button for “Menu” page 2 selection is located at the center of the right end, and the button for “Menu” page 1 selection is located at the center of the left end. The “Utility” icon is located around the center of Menu page 2. After “Utility” is announced and you’ve recognized the location, release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch “Utility” again to open the “Utility” display. The tab selected previously will be announced. 

(4) Find the System tab located on the left of the display by using Preview Reading. After recognizing the location, release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch “System” again. The “System” tab page 1 appears. There are two displays in the System tab display.

(5) Find “Next page” located on the bottom right of the display by using Preview Reading.
There are page switching buttons in each tab at the top and bottom right of the Utility display. To call up the next page, confirm the button position, release the ASSIGNABLE [4] button, then touch the button again to go to the next page. Go to the page for Voice Guide settings.

(6) Find the desired item by using Preview Reading. The following three settings are available.

<Level 2> Voice Guide
Specify whether you want to use (“On”) or not use (“Off”) Voice Guide, when the USB flash memory containing the Voice Guide files is connected to the instrument. An alternate method is to press and hold down the [DEMO] button for longer than three seconds. The factory default is “On.”

<Level 2> Voice Guide Controller
This lets you select the controller for the Preview Reading function, switching between the ASSIGNABLE [4] button and the Left Pedal. The default setting is “Assignable 4”.

<Level 2> Voice Guide Volume
Adjusts the Voice Guide Volume. The default setting is “80.”

After setting, press the [HOME] button to call up the Home display. To return to the Menu display, touch the upper right corner on the display.

<Level 1> Customizing Voice Guide
<Level 2> About the Voice Guide Files
The Voice Guide function uses audio files (WAV format) stored to USB flash memory. Each announcement has a corresponding audio file and file name stored to a specific location in the USB flash memory. If you do not need a specific announcement, you can delete the corresponding file or change the file/folder name. Moreover, you can replace audio files as well, if you want to change the contents of a particular announcement or use a different voice.

- Deleting, renaming or replacing files can only be done from a computer.

<Level 2> Compatible File Formats for Playback 
The compatible formats are WAV (file extension of “.wav” with 44.1 kHz sample rate, 16-bit resolution, stereo).

<Level 2> Folder Paths in USB Flash Memory and Language Selection
Voice Guide announcements are spoken in the language specified in Utility / System / Language settings.

<NOTE>
- If there is no folder corresponding to the language you’ve selected on the instrument (in the Voice Guide folder) in the USB flash memory, announcements will be taken from one of the folders selected in the order: EN, JA, DE, FR, ES, IT.

<Level 1> Other Notes on Usage 
- You can use Voice Guide with version 1.20 or later of the CVP-609/605. For instructions on how to check the current version, as well as information on how to upgrade, and information on Voice Guide (audio) files, access the site of your product via the URL below, then see the “Features” page:

- When using Voice Guide, make sure that the USB flash memory containing the Voice Guide files is connected to the instrument.
- USB flash memory can also be connected to the [USB TO DEVICE] terminal at the bottom left of the instrument.
- Settings for Voice Guide on/off, Voice Guide controller, and Voice Guide volume are retained even when the power is turned off.
- The recorded audio files use text-to-speech technology. The actual announcements may not reflect natural native usage and may differ slightly from the displayed words.
- The supported Voice Guide languages (as of April 2013) are Japanese and English.
