Yamaha's Venova Wins Grand Award with Special Mention in the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2018
Yamaha Corporation announces that the Venova—a casual wind instrument from Yamaha—was recognized by the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2018 with the prestigious Grand Award with Special Mention. This is the second award the instrument has received for its innovative design, having also won the Good Design Grand Award in 2017.
The Venova is a completely new type of acoustic wind instrument with an innovative branched-pipe structure and meandering shape that was developed to allow players to enjoy an authentic sound and rich expressiveness with ease. Getting started with Yamaha's Venova is easy even for players with no previous wind instrument experience, and the instrument can be played with simple fingering resembling that of a recorder. At the same time, the Venova also satisfies more experienced wind instrument players by providing a full two-octave range and the expressiveness of a single-reed instrument, such as a saxophone. The ABS plastic body of the instrument is light in weight, excels in durability, and can be cleaned with water. Due to its compact size, the Venova can be taken virtually anywhere, allowing players to enjoy music easily in a variety of settings, ranging from the outdoors to casual music sessions.
DFA Design for Asia Awards
The DFA Design for Asia Awards is a Hong Kong Design Centre program that was launched in Hong Kong in 2003 to celebrate design excellence and acknowledge outstanding designs with Asian perspectives. DFA awards are presented to companies and designers whose superior work reflects Asian lifestyles and who are influential in the design field. Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Merit Awards are presented to winners chosen from a total of 26 different categories, and candidates of Grand Awards are selected from among Gold Award winners. These candidates are given the Grand Award with Special Mention, and winners of the top prize—the Grand Award—are chosen from among them, along with recipients for three other special awards. Yamaha previously received the Grand Award for its SILENT Brass™ in 2014 and its YEV electric violin in 2017.
