Lucas Debargue on the C2X espressivo

Lucas Debargue is a French pianist and composer internationally recognized for his distinctive artistic voice and highly individual approach to interpretation. He performs on major concert stages worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie and the Philharmonie de Paris. His work is shaped by intellectual depth, musical curiosity, and a nuanced sensitivity to sound and the instrument.

How would you describe your first impression and the overall character of the instrument?

The instrument feels familiar to me, as I already work with a C2X. As with any piano, it takes time to fully get to know its character. Within its category, it offers a well-balanced overall concept, with Yamaha’s mechanical ergonomics making it particularly approachable and comfortable to play for a wide range of pianists.

How does the instrument respond in terms of touch, control, and expressiveness?

The action feels reliable and consistent, with a clear and direct response, especially in the middle register. It supports a focused and controlled way of playing, where sound and articulation can be shaped with precision. I find it particularly suitable for pianists who appreciate a stable, well-defined touch and a clear connection to the keyboard.

In which musical contexts do you see this instrument working best?

I found the instrument especially convincing in chamber music settings and collaborative playing, for example with singers or other instrumentalists. It also works very well for private music-making, sight-reading sessions, and repertoire for two pianos.

In a home or studio environment, it offers a very good balance between size and musical possibilities and is particularly well suited for pianists looking for an instrument that is friendly to play, reliable, and musically rewarding in everyday use.
