Tomasz Marut on the C2X espressivo
Tomasz Marut is an internationally active pianist and educator whose work combines classical tradition with contemporary artistic research. As a winner of International Piano Competition Piano FVG 2026 and a participant in the Chopin Competition and Global Piano Project (Busoni–Mahler), he is deeply engaged with questions of sound, interpretation, and modern piano culture. His playing is characterized by stylistic versatility, tonal awareness, and a strong interest in the expressive potential of the instrument across a wide repertoire.
What was your first impression of the piano?
From the very first touch of the keyboard, the piano made a very positive impression on me. Despite its compact size, it immediately revealed a sense of spaciousness and depth in the sound. This openness met my expressive needs to a very satisfying degree and suggested that the instrument offers something genuinely distinctive within its category.
How did the piano feel in terms of touch, responsiveness, and sound development?
Under my fingers, the instrument proved to be exceptionally responsive and comfortable to play. The tone develops naturally and is characterized by warmth and a clear, well-projecting overtone structure. The piano feels classical and ‘natural’ in its response, supporting the pianist without resistance and allowing musical ideas to unfold organically.
In which musical contexts do you see this instrument working particularly well?
After spending many hours with the piano and exploring a wide range of repertoire—from Baroque music to works of the 20th and 21st centuries—I consider it an artistically very versatile instrument. In my view, it is well suited both as a teaching piano and for concert performances in chamber halls or music salons. I see it as a representative of a new generation of high class instruments that combines expressive depth with practical dimensions.
